HSH assisted the Project Team in identifying and convening the appropriate City and state stakeholders to gauge and determine appropriate mitigation for expected impacts on the local and regional transportation network, including I-90, the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority’s (MBTA’s) Worcester Mainline, and the westbound I-90 on-ramp from Newbury Street. HSH also designed a complex set of Temporary Traffic Control Plans (TTCPs) to support the short- and long-term lane closures required for construction, including triple-lane closures and rolling roadblocks on the Turnpike. We designed a regional community engagement plan and pivoted to a fully virtual outreach strategy during COVID-19. HSH created a virtual communications package including visual branding, a custom-built website, phone line, email inbox, mass email list, and animations and graphics to broadcast current construction updates, lane closures, and detours; worked with Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) to map local and regional stakeholders, reach out, and give briefings in advance of construction; and advertised, planned, and ran two virtual public information meetings focused on transportation during construction. We are now sending regular construction updates and alerts, creating progress photographs; and responding to constituent concerns, inquiries, and questions.
