I-91 over Route 2 Rotary Bridge Preservation (G-12-059/G-12-060)

This project includes the replacement of four bridge decks carrying I-91 over the Route 2 rotary. This project is defined as a bridge preservation project and the purpose and need of the project is to address deficiencies on all four bridge decks and extend the service life of the structures. The existing bridges consist of single span steel plate girder superstructures comprised of six (6) beams spaced at 7’-9” on center and a span length of 90’-0” from the centerline-to-centerline of bearing. HSH scope includes preliminary and final bridge design, including preliminary structure preservation report, bridge sketch plans, along with highway design and temporary traffic control design through final design and construction phase services. HSH’s Permitting efforts include MEPA/NEPA determination, NEPA CE Checklist, and MassDOT’s Environmental Review Checklist (ERC). HSH is also completing MassDOT’s Impaired Waterbody Assessment and WQDF for this project. HSH is evaluating and designing for the treatment requirements based on the appropriate watershed and project type. HSH is evaluating the feasibility stormwater control measures including enhancing and preserving existing vegetation, reducing impervious cover and evaluating natural hydrologic patterns. HSH is also evaluating structural stormwater control measures for this project.
