Mattapan Station Redevelopment
Boston Planning and Development Agency
Boston, Massachusetts
The Mattapan Station Redevelopment project is a transit-oriented, mixed-use building providing residential units, and commercial and retail space. The development concept was crafted to respond to the expressed needs and goals of the community and the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority’s (MBTA’s) requirements. The Nuestra Comunidad Development Corporation has been a mainstay in the Mattapan neighborhood for over a decade, providing affordable housing opportunities and working with the neighborhood to provide community services. The Preservation of Affordable Housing (POAH) has a long track record of housing development and neighborhood transformation in Greater Boston and beyond. They have joined forces in an effort to build upon what makes the Mattapan neighborhood so important – its diversity and the strength of its residents.
This project leverages local opportunities for growth and expansion by adding jobs, creating commercial and retail services, and providing stable affordable and workforce housing. The Project was permitted under the Boston Planning and Development Agency’s (BPDA’s) Article 80 Large Project Review process. HSH provided grant assistance in obtaining a MassWorks grant for transportation safety improvements and updating utilities within the project area.
HSH provided services from transportation planning to civil, traffic, and resident engineering, through construction phase services. Work also included grant and permit applications as well as the Construction Management Plan (CMP) and bidding assistance.
