Route I-195 to Route 18 Interchange Rehabilitation

HSH is providing community engagement support for the federally funded Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) effort to reconstruct the Acushnet Avenue Interchange on I-195 in New Bedford, which is home to a large environmental justice (EJ) population. Members of EJ communities may be limited from fully participating in the community engagement process due to language barriers or working hours which prevent them attending traditional, evening public information meetings. As such, our engagement is undertaken in a spirit of inclusivity: working with local community groups, going where people are when they are there, and providing project information in multiple languages.

HSH is supporting MassDOT in conducting field outreach including pop-up meetings; briefings to interested local organizations; placement of information materials in community facilities in New Bedford such as City Hall, the public library, and on City transit buses; and direct delivery of information materials to homes and businesses on streets directly abutting the project site.
