Allston Multimodal Transportation Project

The I-90 Allston Interchange Improvement Project is a complex project that will dramatically improve livability and connectivity for residents of the Allston neighborhood while preserving and enhancing regional mobility through improvements to I-90 and its abutting interchange. The Project proposes to replace the existing highway interchange with a new multimodal urban interchange while accommodating mixed-use development. I-90 is a significant part of the regional highway infrastructure, carrying over 150,000 vehicles per day and connecting Boston Logan Airport, I-93, and downtown Boston with areas to the west via I-95 and I-495. 

Throughout the conceptualization phase of this project, HSH has worked closely with the Massachusetts Department of Transportation’s (MassDOT) design team in both bringing information to the community and gathering input on the advancing design to help the agency advance a project which will ultimately lower the Interchange’s impact on Allston and make the highway a better neighbor. Central to the development of the concept has been the 50 member Allston Multimodal Transportation Task Force composed of local elected leaders, community residents, area business owners, and advocates.
