Erin Reed Promoted to Manager of Community Engagement

April 04, 2022

Howard Stein Hudson is thrilled to announce Erin Reed’s promotion to Manager of Community Engagement.

I am very excited that Erin will be leading our community engagement team.  Her friendly positive attitude and innovative ideas make her a favorite among both our clients and our staff. – Tom Stokes, P.E., President and CEO

Erin works closely with HSH’s engineering and planning groups to integrate community engagement into projects. Erin managed HSH’s public outreach efforts on the recently completed MBTA Green Line Extension (GLX) project in Somerville and Medford. She helped the GLX team seamlessly pivot to virtual meetings and engagement when the pandemic hit in March 2020. Erin is currently managing a variety of outreach efforts for MassDOT, the MBTA, and private developers, and is well-versed in all aspects of both in-person and virtual outreach. During her time as Senior Statewide Coordinator for the MassDOT Safe Routes to School (SRTS) Program, she served as team lead for equitable and sustainable outreach initiatives promoting localized SRTS programs in over 200 Massachusetts communities. She was named one of ACT’s “40 Under 40” for her six years as a leader in transportation demand management. Erin graduated from University of Saint Joseph with a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies.

Erin says she knew she had made the right career choice of working in transportation when her then five-year-old daughter told her that she “loved walking to the bus as it was good for the whales.” Her two marine-life-loving daughters, one a “plan-gineer” in the making, serve as her daily reminders as to why public engagement is integral to the projects she works on and why she loves her job.
