SEAPORT SQUARE MASTER PLANHSH is the lead traffic and parking consultant on a Boston GLobal Investors LLC (BGI) planning and design team crafting a 6.3-million-square-foot master plan for 23 acres in the South Boston Seaport area. After acquiring the 14-block development site from the McCourt Company, BGI took the lead in developing a comprehensive master plan for a new, mixed-use Boston neighborhood. Strategically located between Seaport Boulevard and Summer Street in South Boston, in the midst of the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center, Fan Pier, Commonwealth Flats, and 100 Acres development areas, this project will provide the critical mass of residential and commercial land uses that will tie the various sub-areas of the district together.
HSH has assisted the project team in assessing site access, circulation, parking supply and demand, transit service, pedestrian desire lines, and loading arrangements, as well as determining traffic impacts for a range of development alternatives. Working closely the client and the consultant team, HSH performed the transportation analysis for both the City of Boston Article 80 process and MEPA review. The project also includes creation of a new street, to be called Harbor Street, which will provide a vehicular and pedestrian connection from elevated Summer Street down to Congress Street, as well as many other public realm improvements.
In November 2008, the Boston Redevelopment Authority approved Parcel A, the first project to move forward as part of the development. The entire project was approved in September 2010.
