BRAINTREE/WEYMOUTH LANDING PWED PROJECT
Town of Braintree

The Weymouth Landing area straddles the towns of Braintree and Weymouth and serves as a “gateway” to both communities and ultimately the South Shore. Beginning with the 2001 Town of Weymouth Master Plan and the recent Metropolitan Area Planning Council (MAPC) Braintree-Weymouth Landing Revitalization report, the Mayors of both Towns prioritized implementing the necessary streetscape and infrastructure improvements to restore Weymouth Landing as a thriving village center and gateway. Wisely, both Mayors—together with their respective planning and engineering departments—collaborated to obtain the requisite funding to advance the area, in the form of a $2.4 million Public Works and Economic Development (PWED) grant from Massachusetts Department of Transportation. Recognizing that the infusion of PWED funds is the beginning of an overall revitalization strategy that will require additional capital sources, the Towns also recognize the need to prioritize improvements in the most efficient manner. With this in mind, the Braintree/Weymouth Landing PWED project (BWL-PWED) emphasizes an improved streetscape to create a pedestrian-friendly village center that will set the stage to stimulate economic development, sustain current businesses, and attract enhanced amenities to the district.

HSH is leading the team preparing preliminary and final design plans, specifications, and construction cost estimates for construction of the BWL-PWED project. Work includes pavement rehabilitation, sidewalk construction, pedestrian safety features, bicycle accommodations, street lighting, streetscape improvements, drainage and other utility improvements. HSH is also providing complete construction oversight and will act as the Towns’ representative during construction.
