MBTA-Wonderland Parking Garage
Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority
The Wonderland Intermodal Transit Center is the first of many developments planned to revitalize the City of Revere’s historic Revere Beach. The facility features 1,500 parking spaces, a sheltered bus way, bicycle storage, and improved pedestrian access. The Transit Center is part of a plan to replace acres of unused surface parking lots with ocean-facing private development slated to bring hotel, residential units, office space, and shops to Revere Beach.
HSH partnered with Suffolk Construction to ensure the success of this design/build project, bringing the project from the permitting phases to developed construction documents. We provided the final design layout of the electrical, water, sewer, and storm water utilities, while maintaining the existing infrastructure in and around the project site. Working with the contractor, we provided value engineering processes to achieve cost savings and delivering the project under budget. In addition, we were responsible for the functional design of the layout for bus way, drop-offs, and parking areas at the transit center. The MBTA Wonderland Intermodal Transit Center opened in 2012.
