Bicycle Network Plan and On-Call Bicycle Facility Design, Boston

Massachusetts Transportation Department
Boston, Massachusetts

HSH has provided on-call Resident Engineering services for the City.   As a part of the current administration’s initiative to improve bicycle safety, the project involves installing bicycle facilities on the heavily travelled corridors throughout the city including new bicycle lanes, shared lane markings, and flex post delineations.  HSH’s services include the following:

Scheduling – Our Construction Services Department coordinates daily with the City of Boston Transportation Department, the roadway design team, and the contractor to schedule tasks to meet the city’s priorities and maximize construction efficiency.

Inspection – Our staff provides field inspection services – day and night – to ensure the roadway design is implemented correctly in the field and record work progress and material quantities.

Field Reports and Communication – Our staff generates field reports stating the work activity, progress, material quantities used and weather conditions for each work period.  In instances where design changes need to be made due to anomalous field conditions, our staff communicates with the design team and the city to determine the appropriate alternative solution.
