HSH's Traffic Engineering group has been working with the Boston Transportation Department (BTD) on retiming and reconfiguring signalization at numerous intersections around the City. Director of Traffic Engineer David M. Matton and Senior Transportation Engineer James M. Danila, P.E., are leading the work on the project, which was recently featured on Boston's WBZ-TV (see http://wbztv.com/local/boston.traffic.lights.2.830634.html), on The Boston Globe Web site (see http://www.boston.com/news/local/breaking_news/2008/10/boston_stopligh.html), on Boston's WCVB-TV Web site (see http://www.thebostonchannel.com/news/14313395/detail.html), and in the Boston University Daily Free Press (see http://www.dailyfreepress.com/city_tackles_gridlock_in_back_bay). These improvements are already helping to lessen the amount of time drivers must wait for a green light--a significant boon for the environment in terms of both air pollution and fuel use.
