  HSH Announces New Associates, Promotions,
and Staffing Changes
  7/21/2006

The Principals at Howard/Stein-Hudson Associates are pleased to announce that they recently conferred the title of Associate on four staff members, promoted several other staff members in both Boston and New York, and hired new staff for several key positions in the firm.

New Associates
The Principals designated Senior Civil Engineer Robert W. Hicks, P.E., Transportation Planner Scott W. Giering, Civil Engineer Daniel C. Nelson, and Transportation Engineer James M. Danila as Associates, recognizing their outstanding contribution to the firm’s success in the transportation consulting field.
“Rob, Scott, Dan, and Jim have been invaluable in enhancing HSH’s reputation for high quality work and responsiveness to clients and in promoting the growth of the firm through creative, effective marketing—two key elements of being an Associate at HSH,” remarked Founding Principal Jane Howard.
Since joining HSH Boston in 2004, Rob Hicks has made a significant contribution, strengthening HSH’s work in civil engineering for highway, transit, and development projects.  He has taken the lead on numerous projects, including design engineering services for MassHighway’s Paul X. Tivnan Drive in Boylston/West Boylston and Main Street/Winter Street in Walpole, roadway design and civil engineering for The Fenn School in Concord, and civil engineering for the Boston College High School Master Plan.  “I’m excited,” Rob says, “to be an integral part of expanding HSH’s capabilities in the roadway and civil aspects of projects.  I look forward to continuing to guide our great technical staff in these areas.”
Scott Giering, of HSH’s New York office, helps coordinate public meetings and conducts stakeholder interviews for public involvement projects.  For New York’s Dutchess County, Scott currently manages the public involvement efforts for three related projects along the CR 21 corridor.  He recently began project management of a truck stop study for the New York Metropolitan Transportation Council and a bus circulation project for Hudson County in New Jersey.  Scott is excited about his new role as Associate and hopes to use his technological skills to enhance HSH’s public involvement capabilities.  He was also promoted to Transportation Planner III.
In addition to transportation and civil engineering work on several key projects such as the Lowell Trial Courts consolidation and design assistance for the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum Master Plan and the Boston Museum of Fine Arts Master Plan, Civil Engineer Dan Nelson has been a key player in training and working with junior engineers and co-op students in HSH’s Boston office.  Along with his new Associate title, Dan was promoted to Civil Engineer IV.
Jim Danila has played several important roles in HSH’s work over the years, including reviewing all of the firm’s Synchro and SimTraffic simulations, managing railroad grade crossing projects for NJ TRANSIT, assisting with access management for Route 30 in New York, analyzing site access and traffic for the University of Maryland-Baltimore, traffic signalization assistance for the Andover Emergency Signal Preemption system, and developing mitigation for the transportation infrastructure related to the Columbus Center project in Boston.  Of his new role as an Associate, Jim says, “I hope to continue facilitating the in-house training sessions that keep our staff in the forefront of state-of-the-art techniques and technology.  I also want to carry on the HSH tradition of building new client relationships while expanding on existing ones through good project management.”
